Why it Matters

Legacy Early College serves as a vital educational institution for the city’s underserved communities, specifically addressing the needs of scholars in West Greenville’s “Legacy Zone,” where socioeconomic barriers and generational poverty have historically limited educational attainment.

Legacy Early College’s approach is holistic, integrating rigorous academics, daily physical education, and nutritious meal programs to support students' overall well-being and long-term success.

By fostering a mindset that college is within reach, the school instills confidence and motivation, setting a foundation for lifelong success.

In a region where nearly 90% of students once saw college as unattainable, Legacy Early College has shifted perspectives and outcomes, showing children that their zip code does not define their future.

Ultimately, we believe our model can be replicated across South Carolina and beyond.

"Our goal is to make this work so well that other people from other communities and even from this community can look at it and say, ‘Wow! I didn't know you could do that. We could do that in our community.’

And we can show you how. It's free to anybody who wants to copy it. But sometimes it's going to look like just plain hard work because it is."
